The Delaware Academy of Family Physicians supports recognizing excellence in Family Medicine. We offer a number of annual awards for Members, Organizations and Friends who support Family Medicine interests in Delaware. In addition our Academy has acheived and been recognized excellence.

DAFP Awards and Honors

Each year the DAFP recognized individuals for their unique contributions to the field of Family Medicine. These awards, presented in the Spring, are nominated and chosed by our membership and Board of Directors.

2016 Teachers of the Year

Each year Delaware's two Family Medicine Residency Programs honor a faculty member who they feel most explifies what it means to be a teacher. Chosen for their commitment to education and passion for teaching our next generation of Family Physicians, we are pleased to honor them:

2016 President's Award

Erin M. Kavanaugh, M.D.

 

Jack Gelb, MD Award

The Jack Gelb Award is presented to the Christiana Care Family Medicine resident winner of the scientific paper competition at the CCHS Education & Research Week Reception. The award was established in honor of Dr. Gelb, Past President of the Delaware Academy of Family Physicians (1968-1970) and highly respected member of the Delaware medical community. This award was not given in 2016.

Friend of the Delaware Academy of Family Physicians

Starting in 2012, the DAFP began recognizing individuals and organizations who have provided exceptional service in support of the mission of the Academy and Family Physicians in Delaware. This award was not given in 2016.

Drs. David & Ethel Platt Summer Fellowship

 

Paid fellowships are offered each year for a four-week preceptor program where the chosen medical student will spend a week with various family physicians in Delaware. It is hoped that this exposure will help guide students into the field of medicine that the Doctors Platt helped to further in Delaware. Over 60 students have been award the fellowship and some have returned to Delaware to train and practice.
